What's Unique About St Joseph's School
St Joseph’s is a Catholic School with its own special features. Key features of our school are:

  • The Special Character of the school is evident through the positive interactions between staff and students (ERO June 2007)

  • Our school was established in 1889 (120 years ago) by the Sisters of St Joseph: service

  • We are a pastoral area school with strong ties to Sacred Heart Church

  • We believe and practice the 6 R’s : reading, writing, arithmetic, Religious Education, relationships and responsibility

  • Our School’s Catholic Character provides the heart to all learning (refer framework) and living (refer framework) opportunities provided to the students of St Joseph’s School
  • All students participate in daily prayer, weekly liturgy and/or Mass … with open invitations to community to attend

  • Staff commit to work with parents and students for students to be the best person they can be

  • We use Jesus as a role model

  • Our school rule of treat others as you would like to be treated

  • A comprehensive and student centered Religious Education programme is taught school-wide

  • A pastoral care programme operates for students and families

  • We have a strong peer support programme in operation across the school: health and well-being officers, homework buddy programme, peer tutors, PAL leaders, Green team, Student council, buddy class system …

  • Sports teams all take the field with the expectation to display fair play and good sporting behaviour principles

  • An annual Form II Retreat is held

  • Many leadership opportunities are offered to seniors especially the BLUES award programme

  • Behaviour (relationship) management is based on problem solving and resolving (restorative practices)

  • Attitudes and values (RESPECT and the 7 C’s statements) provide the cornerstone to learning progress across the school
